Jurien Bay could soon be home to a new microbrewery able to whet the whistle of more than 200 people. Dandaragan Shire council granted planning approval for the microbrewery on Gypsum Street in the town’s light industrial area. Developer Stephen McLeary now has two years to “substantially commence” work and will only be allowed to sell beer made on site. Dandaragan Shire planning officer Rory Mackay told councillors that noise concerns about the licensed area were negligible as there was no established homes near the industrial area. One bay of the warehouse in which it will be housed will be converted into a brewing area, while the opposite bay will be the licensed area. The brewery will feature a children’s play area and may serve up to 225 people at a time.
