Department of Communities demolish Mount Tarcoola house following blaze that killed 13-year-old Nulla Mongoo

A Mount Tarcoola house has been demolished one year on from a fire that left three children with serious injuries and killed a 13-year-old boy. The demolition of the State-owned house, gutted by flames while four children aged between 12 and 14 were inside, finished last week. The June 1 blaze claimed the life of 13-year-old Nulla Mongoo, after he suffered burns to 90 per cent of his body. He died at Perth Children’s Hospital four days later. Nulla’s older brother, Matt, 14, is in and out of hospital every six to eight weeks to treat his injuries. The horrifying events had neighbours desperately rushing to help the injured boys before emergency services arrived, some dousing them in cold water and wet towels to ease their pain. The boy’s mother, Melissa, said she felt “broken” knowing the fire-ravaged home was gone. But much worse was having to say goodbye to her youngest son. “It’s been a year today since I heard your last heartbeat, but it feels like yesterday,” Ms Mongoo posted to Facebook. “No words can describe how much I miss you. The pain is killing me.” Ms Mongoo and Nulla’s family and friends gathered around his grave on Wednesday to mourn the anniversary of his death. A Department of Communities spokesperson said the land will be retained for future public housing redevelopment.
