Artists from Goldfields and beyond invited to submit works for annual Art Prize with $40,000 prize pool

Artists from the Goldfields and beyond are encouraged to enter artworks in any medium under an open theme for this year’s City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Art Prize. Now in its fourth decade, the Art Prize offers artists aged 16 and over an opportunity to present their work in a professional gallery setting at the Goldfields Arts Centre and connect with local audiences and visitors. This year’s Art Prize features 10 categories and a total prize pool of $40,000, including the People’s Choice Award which gives the community a chance to have their say. Mayor Glenn Wilson said the Art Prize continued to reflect and celebrate the creative talent in the community. “It’s always exciting to see the range of ideas, stories and perspectives that come through in the work,” he said. “Whether you’ve entered before or you’re thinking about giving it a go for the first time, I’d really encourage you to get involved. “This is your chance to share your work, connect with others and be part of something that the whole community gets behind.” To help make participation more accessible, the city is offering a free freight pick-up service for artworks from Perth, Esperance, Merredin, Laverton, Leonora and Menzies. Mr Wilson said the initiative removed a key barrier for regional artists and supported broader participation. “We know getting work to Kalgoorlie-Boulder can be a challenge, particularly for artists outside the region,” he said. “This is a practical way we can support artists and make sure the Art Prize is open to as many people as possible.” Registrations are open now and close on May 29. The exhibition will open with an awards evening on September 11 and artworks will be on public display from September 12 to October 16 at the GAC.
