Queensland has recorded a new mystery Covid-19 case in the community who visited a number of retail venues on the Gold Coast.

Health authorities issued an alert on Wednesday afternoon to confirm it was investigating the details of the case, adding it was too soon to determine the variant.

But sources said it was unlikely the patient had contracted the Omicron variant, which has heightened pandemic concerns across the globe in recent days.

“The case has visited the Robina Town Centre during the Black Friday shopping sales, so we would urge anyone who has visited the location or has symptoms, no matter how mild, to come forward and get tested,” Queensland Health said in a statement.

“This is a timely reminder for all Queenslanders to regularly monitor the list of exposure venues on the Queensland Health website and follow the public health advice, as there may be more locations.”

Rebel Sport, JB Hi-Fi and Target in Robina Town Centre were all listed as casual contact venues.

The entire shopping centre was listed as a low risk exposure site.

Queensland is expected to open its borders in coming days — when the state reaches 80 per cent double dose vaccine coverage — for travellers who are fully vaccinated and with confirmation of a negative Covid test.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the emergence of a new variant had not yet forced her government to alter plans to ease restrictions.

“Queensland will continue to monitor developments and listen to the experts,” she told parliament on Wednesday.

“We will continue to keep Queenslanders safe. The best thing that Queenslanders can do is to get vaccinated prior to 17 December.”

Exposure sites can be located here.
