Police confirm seven-month-old baby killed, three-year-old hospitalised from horror Lynwood rideshare crash

A seven-month-old baby died after the rideshare vehicle it was in with two other family members collided into a tree in the early hours of Saturday morning. The horror collision in Lynwood — which police were on Saturday night continuing to investigate — also left the infant’s mother, 32, and her three-year-old daughter with serious injuries. The 35-year-old male driver of the car walked away uninjured in the crash. CCTV vision obtained by 7News shows the moment the silver Toyota Kluger collided with the tree at 3.17am on Nicholson Road, before terrified residents rush out and scramble to help. The infant can be seen taken into a home near the collision, while the driver called an ambulance, which arrived an agonising 13 minutes later. St John WA rushed the mother and seven-month-old to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where it was later confirmed the baby had died. Witness Chandi Sard said the horror event was heartbreaking. “It was very, very horrible,” she said. “(The mother) was like begging everyone, ‘my baby’s not crying please help us, please help us, my baby’s not breathing.” Ms Sard said the baby was not able to breathe when it was brought into the home, but was breathing through the mouth after CPR. The three-year-old girl also involved in the collision was taken separately to Perth Children’s Hospital. Both she and her mother were in a stable condition on Saturday night. The vehicle had been travelling north along a straight stretch of Nicholson Avenue before it fatefully left the road. Before hitting the tree, it obliterated a bench seat at a streetside bus stop. A floral tribute had been placed at the scene of the fatality on Saturday afternoon. What happened in the lead-up to the crash and whether the infant was correctly restrained in the rideshare vehicle will form part of the police investigation. Nicholson Road is one of the longest suburban thoroughfares in Perth, a 16km dual carriageway that winds all the way from Forrestdale and Piara Waters to Cannington. It is a common connector from the southern suburbs to Perth Airport and a road that is notoriously busy during the day.
