A new funding pool has been made available to attract and staff to bolster childcare services in regional communities.

The $1 million grant will be available over four years with payments of up to $25,000 available for local government authorities to deliver a range of initiatives to attract and retain childcare workers in the regions, including subsidised accommodation, relocation costs, intrastate travel and training and professional development.

The number of places available at a service is often dependent on the number of staff available, with child-to-educator ratios set in legislation.

Community Services Minister Simone McGurk said the number of available childcare places often depended on the availability of staff.

Ms McGurk said the funding package will help local governments attract and retain childcare workers.
