Exmouth has bolstered efforts to reduce plastic in the environment by providing paper bags to residents and tourists to tackle roadside litter. The Shire of Exmouth received a 2020/2021 Keep Australia Beautiful grant enabling the production of paper car litter bags for vehicles. Shire staff members will distribute these paper bags to accommodation providers, car rentals and other local businesses while the ranger services team will distribute bags in a mobile approach during their patrols. Shire of Exmouth president Darlene Allston said the move would protect the region’s environment. “This includes taking every opportunity to actively reduce litter and waste threatening this environment and educating our residents and visitors about the issue,” she said. “Littering is often a mindless act and council tries to encourage everyone to litter nothing but time when enjoying the Ningaloo Region and Exmouth. “We are pleased to see that all approached businesses are on board to supply the car litter bags to their customers, showing the importance of this issue to our residents.” Free paper bags can be collected from the Shire’s front office and the Ningaloo Visitor Centre.
