Thirty-six citizens from 12 different nations have been welcomed as Australian citizens at a service held on Australia Day.

The service was part of the City of Karratha’s Australia Day Awards held at the Red Earth Arts Precinct on Wednesday.

New citizen Sean Casey said it was special to be part of the Australia Day ceremony.

“I feel like I have the freedom to come and go as I please and always come back to Australia knowing it’s my home,” he said.

Mr Casey said one of the things he loved about Australia was the diverse culture.

“The Indigenous culture is so diverse and special and there’s also has a great mix of other cultures so it’s really multicultural and inclusive,” he said.

“There’s also the fact that the Aussies love their barbecues, beer and the great landscape.”
