Award-winning performer Mama Kin is thrilled to be returning to Karratha and taking locals on a musical journey.

Mama Kin Spender will perform at the North West Brewing Co on July 9 as part of her Northern Magnetic tour with Kiera Jas.

She fell in love with the region after visiting it in 1999 and described it as one of the most precious places on the planet for its cultural significance.

“I was so blown away by the amazing rock art there and ... the most unlikely colours up against each other,” she said.

Mama Kin said the natural landscape around the Ngarluma Ngurra was breathtaking.

“I’ll never forget the first time I drove in. Just going like ‘how, how geologically did this occur, what is this made of?’. It felt so alien, I’ve never seen anything like it,” she said.

“And every time I go, I feel the same thing because I think it’s a very, very special place.”

She said she was thrilled to return to the region.

“I played there last year at the Red Earth Arts Centre, opening up for John Butler, and when I was there I made an oath to come back again,” she said.

“Such a beautiful warm audience there, so I’m really excited about coming back with Mama Kin Spender and North West Brewing Company.”

Mama Kin said the show would have a different vibe to her performance last year.

“There’s storytelling, there’s laugh and humour. There’s get down music and there’s also get down in the feels. Music to move you, move you in the feels and move you in the body,” she said.
