Dance show Djuki Mala hit Narrogin Town Hall last Thursday in an eruption of lights, music and interpretive dance.

The high-energy dancers presented their interpretations of pop culture and storytelling, juxtaposing traditional dances with contemporary Yolngu culture to offer insights into Aboriginal Australia.

The show told the story of their humble journey, which started 13 years ago when Frank Djirrimbilpilwuy uploaded a video clip of the group’s rendition of the Zorba the Greek dance at Ramingining Festival.

The clip was a hit, with millions of views.

The boys from Arnhem Land have since performed at major festivals and events throughout Australia, the UK, China, the US, Canada, Taiwan, Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific.

They have performed alongside high-profile artists including John Butler, Jessica Mauboy, Kate Miller-Heidke, and Yothu Yindi.

They also featured in the movie BranNue Dae.

Narrogin was among the first stops on their regional tour, which will take them all the way around WA in just under two months.

The dancers held a free workshop last Wednesday, getting local children involved and teaching them some of the Djuki Mala dance moves.
