A six-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was discovered in a Booragoon backyard following a frantic search.

Police launched a search for the young boy, named Joey, after he was reported missing in the southern Perth suburb about 4pm on Sunday.

He was last seen on Riseley Street, Booragoon, and was later found in the same suburb.

The boy was found in the backyard of a property and needed urgent medical assistance. Joey was rushed by ambulance to Fiona Stanley Hospital in a critical condition.

It came after police who were first on the scene provided emergency first-aid, with St John Ambulance taking over when they arrived.

Police had blocked off access to Candish Court, Booragoon — which backs onto Riseley Street — on Sunday night.

Officers were seen stationed at a home on the cul-de-sac.

Before the boy was found, residents in area were asked to check their gardens and any outbuildings.

The boy was believed to be without his clothes and police said Joey “may have difficulty communicating with strangers”.

The incident comes just two days after a four-year-old girl went missing in Tasmania.

Shayla Phillips was fortunately found alive and well on Friday after disappearing on Wednesday afternoon.

About 100 people were involved in the search for the young girl and local police launched a large-scale land and air hunt.

After three days of searching, Shayla was spotted in bushland hundreds of metres from where she went missing.

She was taken to hospital for assessment after enduring two nights alone outdoors where temperatures dropped to 11C.

The young girl had been playing with her neighbour’s dogs outside before she went missing.
