Young Motors Women’s Cricket League: Forfeits mar final round as Towns, CVN fail to find sufficient numbers

The final round of qualifiers in the Young Motors Women’s Cricket League on Sunday ended on a gloomy note with two forfeits.
The two sides that could not find sufficient players were Towns, who were scheduled to play Wanderers at the Rec, and Chapman Valley-Northampton, who were fixtured to meet Sporties at Wonthella.
But Towns and CVN didn’t have the incentive of winning to make the grand final, which was locked away by Wanderers and Sporties early in the season.
Perhaps more to the point, extreme heat on the day made the prospect of likely defeat even less attractive.
Attention now turns to the decider, which will be played under lights at Wonthella next Saturday from 6pm. Wanderers will be aiming for a premiership hat-trick and Sporties their first title.
On Sunday, Towns and CVN will meet in a play-off for third at the Rec and officials from both teams believe that game will go ahead.
Another point of interest is who will win Cricketer of the Year at the annual Doug Hogue night on Monday, March 11.
Contenders include CVN’s Kylie Bremner, Wanderers’ Olivia Bidwell and Meg Spalding, Sporties duo Jo Walker and Belinda Burrows and Towns’ Dirranie Kirby.
