A Geraldton newsagency is celebrating after a $5 scratchie purchased by a customer last week turned into a massive $300,000 win.

The lucky winner secured the scratchie’s top prize after they bought it from Jungles News & Lotto in Wonthella.

Lotterywest contacted newsagency owner Jim Prater to notify him of the good news after the winner had gone straight to Perth to cash in their big prize.

In his 29 years of owning the store, Mr Prater has garnered excellent customer outcomes, with 11 scratchie triumphs above $65,000, a car, travel prizes and four division one Lotto wins. One of those Lotto windfalls was $2.1 million in 2017.

Their last sizeable win on a scratchie was in August 2019, when a woman won $100,000.

Mr Prater’s daughter Kody said: “Selling a top prize feels very rewarding and we are over the moon.”
