It’s that time of the year when there’s no excuse not to get a few extra steps in the day, by walking your furry friend once a day fundraising for the RSPCA’s virtual Million Paws walk in May.

The RSPCA fundraiser challenges your fitness by walking every day in May, with “daily walkies” tailored to your abilities or schedule.

The website allows you to choose a fundraiser amount and how many minutes you walk a day, linking your progress with your Fitbit or entering manually.

Due to COVID, this year’s annual walk will be virtual. Local long-term supporter and animal lover Heather Beswick said this was the paw-fect option for unsocial pooches.

“It’s a really good set up for the elderly and for dogs that aren’t social as they have the opportunity to walk in a place that’s comfortable for them,” she said.

Ms Beswick and her rescue kelpie, Kip, have raised funds for the RSPCA for decades, and she urged others in the community to get involved.

She hopes to have a daily morning tea at her workplace where supporters can donate money depending on the COVID situation.

“I’ll be contacting my friends and family to help out. It’s such a great cause, just to be able to help all the creatures great and small,” Ms Beswick said.

You can visit Ms Beswick’s fundraising page to see how you can contribute to the cause or create your own at https://www.millionpawswalk.com.au/fundraisers/heatherbeswick.
