Morawa Shire president Karen Chappel has been recognised for her longstanding contribution to local government with a WALGA life membership.

Her life membership is a rare distinction as it is one of only eight awarded in the past five years.

WALGA president Lynne Craigie congratulated Mrs Chappel, who is also a WALGA State councillor and mentor to other Shire councils.

“Her dedication to assisting other elected members across the State to develop their own leadership skills, despite her extensive commitments in her home town in the Mid West, is simply outstanding,” she said.

“I commend her on this well-deserved recognition.”

Mrs Chappel received the award at WALGA Local Government Convention August 1.
