Upgraded Northampton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service headquarters completed

Northampton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service has moved into a new, upgraded headquarters to replace its ageing building that was damaged by cyclone Seroja. The $3.93 million fire station was built in 11 months and features a radio tower and road crash rescue training area, as well as personal protective equipment, decontamination areas, changerooms and two large appliance bays. The new headquarters were constructed by local builders GBSC Yurra Pty Ltd with the help of Geraldton-based sub-contractors. Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson said Northampton’s volunteer responders played a crucial role in the region. “Northampton is strategically important to our emergency response in the Mid West, located on a main arterial road in a region prone to major bushfires,” he said. “That’s why we need first-class facilities available to our volunteers so they can grow their membership and continue to serve the community.” Agricultural Region MLC Sandra Carr said the Northampton group deserved the support of the Government. “Our dedicated volunteers in Northampton provide an invaluable service for our region and this was particularly the case following the impact of cyclone Seroja,” she said.
