Researching where your next trip away will be? Not sure if you’re ready to jump on a plane just yet? Why not visit the Murchison GeoRegion, nestled in home soil only a car trip away now that the latest edition trail guide is available at a visitor centre near you. The Murchison GeoRegion self-drive trail takes you on a journey through unique, ancient landscapes with 21 sites of national, international, natural and cultural significance. Tour the ABCs of Geotourism — abiotic, biotic and cultural sites — and gain a deeper connection to the land through the non-living and living elements that make up the Murchison. Dive into the native flora and fauna in the area — including wildflower season as it springs up from July to September — or visit underground tunnels dug by only a pick many years ago. Visitor centres in the Murchison GeoRegion include Cue, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, Murchison, Sandstone, Wiluna and Yalgoo, otherwise you can download the free app. Meekatharra Community Resource and Visitor Centre employee Tiffany Carton said the guide was popular among tourists. “It’s a free book we have in our store, it’s very popular,” she said. “The tourists we have come in who already have it love it.” The updated tour guide includes pages to encourage visitors to stop and explore local attractions in the area.
