La Fiamma enjoyed having a home game after being on the road but it wasn’t enough as they failed to get any points against Spearwood on the weekend with a 5-0 defeat. After travelling to Perth for two weeks straight, La Fiamma had home field advantage as they had the tall task of facing third on the ladder, Spearwood Dalmatinac, who defeated the Reds 5-3 in round six. The game started with an early shot on goal for Spearwood but it was saved by La Fiamma stopper Daniel Walsh. While the Reds did well to hang with Spearwood at the start, the ball spent a majority of the time in the opponents’ end with La Fiamma having little opportunity to score. Early into the game, the referee handed out a yellow card to a Spearwood player, but not long after the team responded by scoring, capitalising on a La Fiamma slip up. With the Reds continuing to struggle to get the ball in their attacking half, Spearwood scored twice more before the half, going up 3-0. The second half was much of the same, with La Fiamma struggling to tighten up on the defensive side of the ball, which in turn did not help them create any scoring opportunities. In the end, La Fiamma lost to Spearwood 5-0 and will look ahead to their next opponent as they hope to pick up the season in the second half. The Reds, who currently sit in eighth, will take on Murdoch University, two spots above them in sixth. The Geraldton team will hope to get a win after a four-game losing streak, or at least secure points after falling to Murdoch 3-1 in their previous match. La Fiamma are back on the road as they travel to Melville to clash with Murdoch University, on Sunday at 3pm.
