Normal public holiday trading hours will apply in Geraldton during the one-off national public holiday on Thursday to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Soon after the Queen’s passing, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that September 22 would be a national day of mourning and public holiday to “commemorate Her Majesty’s remarkable life and dedication to service”. The City of Greater Geraldton has advised the community that the State Government have imposed normal public holiday trading hours for Thursday. This means general retail shops in the greater Geraldton region will be able to trade from 11am to 5pm on the national day of mourning. Normal retail trading hours of 8am to 9pm will recommence on Friday. The City has highlighted this change only applies to general retailers such as Coles and Woolworths and does not affect smaller and specialty retailers, which have been approved to operate with unrestricted trading hours. The national day of mourning will coincide with a national memorial service to be held in Canberra on Thursday, by which time Mr Albanese would have returned from London where he attended the Queen’s funeral.
