Spalding Horse and Pony Club closer to securing funding to help replace storage shed damaged in cyclone Seroja

The Spalding Horse and Pony Club has cleared another hurdle in its goal to secure funding to replace its storage shed, which was damaged during cyclone Seroja last year. The City of Greater Geraldton approved the club’s application to the State Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund. The replacement shed will cost more than $21,000 and includes a new 8m x 10m colourbond shed to store machinery, jump poles and training equipment. The project now needs final approval from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. Mayor Shane Van Styn said the CSRFF program helped sporting clubs develop and improve their infrastructure. “The CSRFF funding program is open to all sporting clubs who want to improve the safety and quality of their facilities and increase participation their particular sport or recreation,” he said. “Apart from providing a place for their machinery and equipment currently being stored in trailers, the new shed will enable the SHPC to host significant regional open and school events other than standard club meets. “It will also enable Horsepower Midwest Group (Riding for the Disabled) to store their equipment and allow the group to expand their current programs to accommodate the ever-increasing demand. “The SHPC will be utilising the insurance payout they received for the damage to their storage shed to fund their portion of the project.” Grants are offered as one-third funding contributions from the DLGSCI. The remaining two-thirds of project costs are equally shared by the applicant and the City.
