Police have handed out a $500 fine to a 31-year-old Geraldton man who damaged the outdoor furniture of a Kalbarri hotel during a big night on the drink.

Kalbarri Police officer-in-charge Sgt Darren Connor said the man was fined for unlawful damage after “letting off some steam” at the Kalbarri Edge Resort.

“There wasn’t any criminal intention, he was just having a bender,” Sgt Connor said.

The Thursday night incident was captured on CCTV, with police identifying the man from a community tip off following an appeal on social media.

“People round here are pretty protective of their environment so they tell us when something isn’t right,” Sgt Connor said.

“No one round here wants that sort of stuff.
