Shire’s Morawa Art Show and Exhibition entries close on July 8 for a chance to win over $20,000 in prizes

A Mid west art show starring regional talent has $20,000 in prizes on offer. The Morawa Art Show and Exhibition competition entries are open for local artists to have the chance to win in four award categories. Ranging from acquisitive to youth categories, there’s no community member left out. The Morawa Art Awards and Exhibition is a biennial event established in 2006 as a way to join the community together through art. The Shire of Morawa hopes to have about 150 entries in the main awards category. The last exhibition was held in 2018. The largest prize is the Shire of Morawa Acquisitive award valued at $7500, with nine other prize categories including a People’s Choice Award. Shire president Cr Karen Chappel said the event was important to the Shire and art was one way to build community. “We value the contribution art makes to our community and we want to support and encourage artists — both professional and emerging,” she said. The 2018 Acquisitive award winner was Loretta Egan with Everlastings Original. The eighth biennial Morawa art exhibition and awards opening night is on Friday, August 5, at the town hall. Entries for the exhibition close on Friday, July 8.
