Shire of Carnarvon to use $26k State Government grant for mountain bike workshops at new pump track

A series of mountain biking workshops using Carnarvon’s new pump track will be held after the Shire secured a $26,050 State Government grant. The Shire of Carnarvon announced it had locked in the funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, as part of the Outdoor Active Recreation Participation Program. The mountain biking workshops on the pump track will help the town’s youth develop skills and confidence to use the Shire’s new piece of infrastructure. The Shire says the project would also enhance youth engagement with the pump track, giving young users the confidence and competence to progress with this recreation activity. Shire CEO Andrea Selvey welcomed the initiative. “This grant is a significant boost for our community’s efforts in youth development,” she said. “The upcoming workshops will play a significant role in building on the positive outcomes achieved through the construction of the pump track and developing the physical and mental health of Carnarvon’s youth while also providing lots of family fun.” Ms Selvey said the grant emphasised the Shire’s ongoing commitment to providing educational opportunities to youth and developing a safe and harmonious community, and realising this vision outlined in its strategic community plan. The pump track was opened in late October.
