Shire of Carnarvon and Real Futures join forces to offer free training opportunities to clients

Carnarvon Shire has joined forces with an organisation to offer free training opportunities in a bid to tackle skills shortages. The council has partnered with Real Futures, which has an aim to build community capacity through job readiness initiatives across Australia. The collaboration has seen the shire and Real Futures recently offer free training opportunities to Real Futures clients. The training is aimed at addressing skills shortages and boosting local workforce capacity to ensure they are “job ready” and strengthening their competitiveness in the job market. A Shire spokesperson said the council provided training in waste management to five Real Futures clients, who after successfully completing the program had the chance to apply for positions at the shire’s waste management facility through its recruitment process. Two clients successfully secured positions for six-month trial work placements. The spokesperson said during this trial period, the recruits would receive ongoing support for career and training development. After finishing the six months successfully, they would be offered permanent full-time roles within the Shire of Carnarvon. The spokesperson said the shire remained committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace that prioritised the growth and development of its team members. “It is hoped that this partnership will provide Real Futures clients with valuable experience in a new professional environment,” they said.
