Police say boy, 15, allegedly stabbed 17-year-old boy at 18th birthday celebrations in Geraldton

A 15-year-old boy has faced court accused of stabbing an older teenager twice in the arm as 18th birthday celebrations at a Geraldton hall turned violent on the weekend. Family and friends gathered at a Glenfield hall booked for 18th birthday celebrations on Saturday night at the Macedonian Society of Geraldton. Police allege an argument between two boys spiralled out of hand outside the venue, resulting in a violent stabbing around 1am on Sunday. Acting officer-in-charge of Geraldton Detectives, Det-Sen. Sgt Marc O’Neill, said about 100 people were at the birthday party. He said in the early hours of Sunday morning a fight broke out between two boys, aged 15 and 17, when a knife was pulled out. “During the fight, a 15-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed another boy,” he said. Det-Sen. Sgt O’Neill said the 17-year-old was stabbed twice on his right forearm and was taken to Geraldton Health Campus. A Macedonian Society of Geraldton spokesperson said the event was an 18th birthday party and the booking noted there would be a maximum of 40 guests. A 15-year-old boy appeared in Geraldton Children’s Court on Tuesday charged with unlawful wounding. The matter was remanded for two weeks until August 30. His bail has been extended through to that date and a plea is yet to be entered.
