Northampton set for a festival of footy this weekend

Northampton is set to host to a festival of footy this weekend as East Fremantle Football Club and East Perth face off in the WAFL, raising funds for the town one year on from cyclone Seroja. The two clubs will be playing for the TMS Seroja Cup in the historic match-up on Saturday. Northampton’s own Andrew Lockyer, a former West Coast Eagle, said he was looking forward to the event and seeing the hard work they’ve put in realised. “East Fremantle have done a fantastic job in organising their side of it all with the school visits and training sessions and seminars, they’re going to run,” he said. “From our point of view, the committee that was formed from the Northampton Football Club, I think we’ve done a terrific job and got most of it organised.” One year on from the devastation of cyclone Seroja, Lockyer said it was important they put on a show for the community. “We’re looking to make sure that it brings a bit of joy for the community for half a day, or full day. I know there’s a bit of a buzz around the town at the moment, which is really good,” he said. “Hopefully, we can raise some funds, so we can help do a few more projects in the community.” As to which former and current AFL players fans can expect, Lockyer said Josh Kennedy, Jamie Cripps, Paul Hasleby, Michael Mitchell, Bryan Cousins and Michael Brennan will all be involved. In other matches in Northampton at Northampton Oval, Brigades and Northampton will match up in the GNFL and GNFLW from 4.20 pm. East Fremantle and Claremont will meet in a top-of-the-table clash in the WAFLW at 11:30 am. The women’s Shark team have two homegrown talents who will be returning home — sisters Julia and Tiani Teakle, who were key pieces of the Rams’ GNFLW premiership last year.
