Nine of Geraldton’s finest head to Bunbury for the Australian Junior Motocross National Championships

Nine riders from the Geraldton Motocross Club are off to Bunbury for the highly anticipated 2024 KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championships. This prestigious event, which showcases Australia’s best junior talent and runs across September 24-28. The team, representing Geraldton, includes Angus Fay, Charlie Humphries, Eddie Fay, Darcy Drew, Addison Orr, Toby Edmonds, Sonny Fay, Damion Leighton and Jasper Pickering. For many of these juniors, this event marks the pinnacle of their young careers with Edmonds, who will be competing in the 65cc and 85cc classes, sharing his excitement. “I am hoping to get in the top 5 in my 65cc class and top 10 on the 85, but I think there will also be some good competition. I feel excited and pretty nervous,” Edmonds said. Drew echoed similar emotions with this event being the most highly anticipated of his young career so far. “The Junior Nats will be the biggest event I have ever competed in,” he said. “I’m feeling nervous but excited to see where I place against the best riders in Australia.” In his final year as a junior, Eddie Fay reflected on the significance of the event being hosted in Western Australia. “It’s going to be awesome watching the local kids go head-to-head with the riders from over East,” he said. “A lot of the riders won’t get an opportunity to do this again as it is a massive commitment to travel each year for the national event.” Addison Orr, who has been selected to be part of the WA State Squad for the Interstate Cup, is eager to compete on familiar ground. “I am super excited for this year’s Junior Nationals, especially being held in Bunbury, which is one of my favourite tracks,” Orr said. “I have been working hard this year for this event and believe I can place inside the top 3, with my sights set on the top step of the podium.” With such talent and dedication, the Geraldton juniors are sure to make their mark on the national stage.
