New face at St George’s Bluff Point
Bishop Gary Nelson ordained Geraldton’s newest Anglican deacon on Sunday, February 10.
Brendan Hurley, 31, will be assistant minister at St George’s Bluff Point focusing on young families, youth and children, and also assisting at the cathedral youth program and community outreach.
Originally from Sydney, he said he had lived in Perth for 10 years where he studied at Trinity Theological College. This is his first time in Geraldton.
Rev Hurley said he had been a churchgoer for several years when his life changed at age 15.
“A friend of mine challenged me to read the Bible for myself and to give Jesus a fair go so I read through one of the Gospels,” he said.
“I was just amazed at who Jesus was, at the things he taught, the way he showed love to me.”
“I think from that point on Jesus changed everything about my outlook.”
