A jam-packed NAIDOC Week opened in Geraldton on Sunday night with an evening filled with music and art.
The free concert, held at Queens Park Theatre, was the first of multiple events organised by Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service.
According to Brent Walker from GRAMS, the event was a successful start to NAIDOC Week’s 50th anniversary.
The concert featured performances from Becca Hatch, Fred Leone, Birdz, and Red Ochre.
Mr Walker said the touring musical acts made sure to stick around to take photos with their fans, and “had a good yarn” with locals.
“The different music that they brought on the day was pretty good,” Mr Walker said.
Roughly 200 people turned up to celebrate the opening of NAIDOC Week, which featured community stalls with artwork, free GRAMS merchandise, and arts and crafts.
“Everyone enjoyed it, and I think everyone went away with something from the stalls, and a lot of kids were there,” Mr Walker said.
“Most of them were interactive with Birdz and Fred, they got the kids up dancing — I think that was the highlight of the day.”
