Mullewa entrance mural to recognise and celebrate culture and cohesion in the Mid West country town

A collaborative mural will be painted in Mullewa to represent cohesion and unity in the community, with works due to be completed at the end of this month. Five renowned local artists will combine brushes and paint the vibrant mural which will be displayed at Callaghan Park. Charmaine Green, Helen Ansell, Pauline Bell, Debra Maher and Susan Merry are the artists responsible for the town’s newest addition. Green said all the artists were delighted to be a step closer to finishing the mural and encouraged the Mid West community to visit when it was completed. “Our vision for the entrance mural is to represent the pathways of connectedness and cohesion of the Mullewa community whilst also depicting the elements for which Mullewa is famed,” she said. “The name Mullewa comes from the traditional name for the Mullewa Spring, so water is a connecting theme throughout the mural.” Mayor Shane Van Styn urged people to visit and admire the painting and he was looking forward to viewing the new creation in town. “Mullewa already has some fantastic public art and this new painting will be a wonderful addition to the collection,” he said. “This artwork celebrates the key components that make up the rich fabric of Mullewa’s heritage and I look forward to seeing the finished product.” The mural is expected to be completed at the end of June subject to weather conditions.
