Mid West and Gascoyne sport groups given boost by regional grants and subsidies

Sport and recreational groups from the Mid West and Gascoyne are some of the winners from a new round of grants and subsidies from the State Government worth more than $32,000. Eight organisations will receive a share of $25,910 from the Government’s Active Regional Communities Grants program, while another three applicants will share $6300 from the North West Travel Subsidy Scheme. These grants include $4000 for the Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club, $1260 for the Geraldton-based northern zone of the Pony Club Association of WA, $1650 for the Midwest Kart Club, and the Shire of Yalgoo, received $5000 for its coordinated sports program. Travel subsidies worth $2000 each will be go to the Exmouth and Carnarvon Amateur Swimming Clubs to help pay for their travel to the WA Country Pennants in Northam, which begin on March 4. Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman said it was important for the Government to support regional activity groups. “Sport and recreation play an important role in the lives of people in our regional communities, so it is vital that opportunities are provided to encourage participation and support organisations,” he said. “Some of our best athletes and competitors come from regional WA, and they often face extra challenges such as distance from events.
