Mid West and Gascoyne Shires hand out honours for all the hard work done
Shark Bay Shire named the area’s best during its Australia Day celebrations last Saturday.
Shirley Geraty took out the Community Award, while younger resident Molly McAuliffe received the Youth Award.
Joe McLaughlin earned the Seniors Award and Roger Hewitt was named the Shire’s Citizen of the Year.
Rounding out the Gascoyne winners were Carnarvon’s John Wheelock, Stephanie Leca, Gwen Clinch and Neil Hatt, who scooped up Community Citizen of the Year, Young Community Citizen of the Year, Senior Community Citizen of the Year and Active Citizen Award respectively.
Upper Gascoyne Shire advised no awards were handed out on Saturday, but two unnamed residents would earn an Order of Australia at an undetermined date.
Morawa Shire honoured John Pulbrook and Paul Featherstone as Senior Citizen and Community Citizen of the Year.
Morawa’s 2018 NAIDOC Committee earned the Active Citizenship Award for planning the community’s week of Aboriginal culture celebration.
In Mount Magnet, Kristine Davis, Kevin Brand and Mount Magnet Race Club earned their Shire’s Community Citizen, Community Citizen Senior and Active Community Group awards respectively.
Mount Magnet Shire advised no nominations were received for the Community Citizen of the Year Youth Category.
In Cue Shire, Helene Salame received the Community Citizen of the Year award.
In Chapman Valley, Ralf Mulks took out the Shire’s 2019 Citizen.
