A Meekatharra man has been remanded into custody after it emerged in court police believe he may have tried to coerce his partner to withdraw allegations against him.

Trent Eric Allen Corbett, 31, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated threats to harm after an incident allegedly involving his partner on April 18.

He appeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court last week, when defence lawyer Georgia Keysers indicated he intended to plead not guilty and began to apply for bail.

Prosecutor Sgt Beau Jones said police opposed Mr Corbett’s bail application because they had information indicating he may have contacted his alleged victim from prison.

“We believe he may be charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice,” he said.
