Man injured after collision with truck on Brand Highway

Dongara Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was seriously injured in a collision between a truck and a car on Brand Highway just before 6am this morning.

Sergeant Brett Cassidy of the Dongara Police said police believe the crash occurred after the driver of the car, a 76-year-old man, pulled onto Brand Highway.

“From what we can ascertain the car pulled out of Moreton Terrace and was hit by a truck travelling north,” he said. “The truck has collided the car’s right engine bay resulting in the car spinning out of control.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said two crews from the Dongara and Port Denison Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene at 5:57am assisting St John Ambulance personnel with removing the man from the vehicle.

Sgt Cassidy said the man was transported to Geraldton Hospital by St John Ambulance with serious injuries and is expected to be flown to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

“Police are investigating the crash and would like anyone with information or witnessed the crash to come forward,” he said.

A spokesperson for the WA Country Health Service confirmed the man remains in a serious condition at Geraldton Hospital.
