A man died when he was crushed by a tractor in a tragic farm accident near Mingenew yesterday.

Police said the Dongara 54-year-old farmer and his nephew were performing maintenance work on the tractor while the engine was running.

The accident happened about 7.30am at a farm on Michael Road, Holmwood, about 30 kilometres north of Mingenew.

Sergeant Grant Rosman of Dongara Police Station said the man died at the scene from internal injuries.

WorkSafe are investigating.

The tragedy comes as the small, Mid West community of Mingenew mourns the loss of elderly resident Ron Buck and former councillor Peter Ward.

Both passed away last week.

Mingenew Shire chief executive officer Martin Whitely said the community was slowly coming to terms with the deaths.

“It’s been a tough period,” he said.

“Ron Buck was a long-term resident and he did a lot for the community.

“Peter was a member of council, and he did a lot of things for the community, just out of his own generosity.”
