Learning goals: new office a help for Carnarvon kids

A WA-based organisation that aims to help overcome barriers to school attendance and early literacy says a new shopfront makes it more visible to the Carnarvon community. An official at Ngala, which delivers programs to about 150 families in the town, said community reaction to its new digs had been positive. Remote school attendance strategy team leader Kay Mongoo said the program had helped Aboriginal children who couldn’t go to school attend. “With the support we’ve provided, attendance has gone from zero to 70 per cent,” she said. The organisation is also delivering a parents and learning program from the new office to help Aboriginal parents in Geraldton, Carnarvon and Mullewa prepare their children to start school.
