Junior surfer Edel Rodden wins new board as Geraldton Board Riders winter opener approaches

Local surfer Edel Rodden is on a roll. The talented teenager is fifth on the WA under-16 ladder, behind some of the South West’s best juniors, and will be up against the top shredders in the State this weekend at the Surfing WA Junior State Titles in Margaret River. And she will have a new board in her kit, after she picked up the progression, participation and performance award at the Geraldton Board Riders Junior Competition summer wind-up in February and is looking forward to the big-wave season. “Edel’s passion for surf shows in her talent and quick mastery of new skills,” said Sonja Tennberg from Willocks Surf, which gave out the award. Edel won the 14-and-under girls ahead of Kate McKenzie. No less deserving were the other winners at the competition. Kerby Morris won the 14-and-under boys ahead of Saxon Bilbe. Lila Bowlder won the 18-and-under girls’ division ahead of Laila Kenyon and Kellin Bowlder won the 18-and-under boys ahead of Byron Catto. Seabury Woodcock and Lorelie Dalle won the novice heats, Mostyn Woodcock won the 11-and-under boys’ division and Hudson Collins won the eight-and-under division. The Frothin’ Fools season opener is on April 2-3.
