Jarrod Heath Edwards: alleged failure to stop trial moved to District Court

The man who pleaded not guilty to one of three charges relating to the alleged hit-and-run of a three-year-old boy last year is set to have his trial heard in the District Court after he appeared in court on Monday. On March 14, 2023, police allege Jarrod Heath Edwards, 48, was involved in a crash with Brenten Comeagain in Karloo. Police say the boy was run over and dragged for about 100m, where it’s alleged the man fled the scene while under the influence of drugs. Brenten received severe face burns, a fractured skull and foot, broken legs, and other injuries to his face and pelvis as a result of the alleged incident. Mr Edwards has previously pleaded not guilty to fail to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning grievous bodily harm and careless driving causing death, grievous bodily harm or bodily harm. He has not yet entered a plea on one count of driving while impaired by drugs. After appearing in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the fail to stop charge was moved to the District Court, where Mr Edwards will return for a trial hearing on Wednesday, July 31. He remains on bail, and will be back in the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 5, regarding the two remaining charges.
