Irwin Polocrosse Club tournament ‘successful, despite fewer participants’

Irwin Polocrosse Club president Larry Criddle was kept busy at last weekend’s tournament.

But he wasn’t recording results or running after horses — he was fixing pipes.

“Just spent the day running around, keeping things going,” Criddle said.

“Had to fix a few broken pipes around the ground, you know, ones for washing horses and the like.”

Criddle was helping the Irwin Polocrosse Carnival, held in Mingenew, run smoothly.

Like the carnivals held before it — namely hosted by Walkaway and Greenough — the Irwin club was down on numbers last weekend.

The club fielded about 23 teams, lower than the 30-35 teams registered in previous years.

Criddle said he couldn’t put his finger on why numbers had dipped, but he said the event remained successful.
