Horizon Power expands solar program to more parts of Mid West & Gascoyne

More homes across the Mid West and Gascoyne have access to rooftop solar after WA’s regional energy provider’s latest expansion. Horizon Power has expanded its Smart Connect Solar program to several places, including Exmouth, Denham and Gascoyne Junction in the Gascoyne, and Sandstone and Mt Magnet in the Mid West. The expansion will see 2400 more customers able to utilise rooftop solar to save on electricity bills. Chief executive Stephanie Unwin said the technology would help businesses and residents with sustainability goals, while saving them money in the process. “Horizon Power is committed to delivering clean energy solutions for all our customers,” she said. “Smart Connect Solar will help regional residents and businesses reduce their energy costs, but it will also contribute to a more sustainable future for all of us.” Horizon Power uses its distributed energy management system and algorithms to optimise the power, increase renewable energy access and help stabilise the network. The program started in Carnarvon earlier this year, and has expanded to 20 towns in regional WA. According to Horizon Power, more than 400 customers have applied to the program since its launch. Ms Unwin said Horizon was committed to delivering the program across the State. “Smart Connect Solar provides us with critical technical capabilities so we can deliver on our commitment of ensuring there are zero customer refusals when connecting rooftop solar by 2025, across our networks,” she said. The energy provider is hoping to make the technology available to all towns in its service area by September.
