Habilitas completes three specialist disability accommodation modular homes and delivers to Geraldton on truck

Three specialist disability modular homes have arrived in Geraldton after Perth-based specialist property developer Habilitas designed the durable and affordable accommodation complete with quicker build times. People with disabilities in remote WA can access quality, transportable homes at more affordable prices, with three making their way to Geraldton on trucks on Tuesday morning. The homes are destined for Wonthella Estate after the company consulted with local stakeholders, families and support co-coordinators within the disability sector, including Rocky Bay, Midwest Community Living Association and ARK Support Coordination. Habilitas devised the project after cyclone Seroja tore through the Mid West in 2021 and put local trades in high demand. Director Todd Paterson said it was the first round of specialist disability accommodation in Australia designed and built with a modular construction technique. He said it provided the same structural and aesthetic sensibilities of a regular on-site home, but with fast delivery. “Habilitas has researched and redefined alternative ways of delivering this highly sought-after product,” he said. “The purpose of these homes is to co-design them for local residents who live with a significant and permanent disability. “This will be a precedent project in Australia that will ensure that those in most need of this accommodation will be able to access it in very remote and regional locations anywhere in the country.” The homes are designed by Perth-based KPA Architects, which specialises in the disability and aged-care sector, and are partly funded by NDIS and given NDIS certification before delivery.
