A few Geraldton Buccaneers players are making some moves in the off-season, coming off their NBL1 West championship year. The newest addition to the team during 2023 was Zac Gattorna, who had played for the Sydney Kings when they won the NBL championship. Gattorna had come from the Kings’ development squad and joined the Buccs before the season, showing growth throughout the year and playing a key role in their finals run. He has re-signed with the Sydney Kings, looking to find more minutes and provide impact on the floor for the team. During his time with the Buccs, Gattorna led in points per game, averaging 18.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in the 22 games he played. Buccs’ royalty Liam Hunt has set off to Germany, fulfilling a promise that he made three years ago to play there. Before the devastating injury Hunt suffered in 2020, he had signed with the German team Baskets Vilsbiburg. Although there was a chance he could possibly lose his leg, Hunt made a miraculous return to basketball and helped his team win the championship. Hunt has now set off to play for Vilsbiburg, where he will make an impact after averaging 13.5 points per game and eight rebounds in the 17 games he played this season for the Buccs. Another Bucc might be looking to join the big leagues of the NBL, as Johny Narkle flew to Victoria last week, to trial with Melbourne United. Starting the season as a bench player, Narkle worked his way into the starting line-up late and accumulated multiple accolades including sixth man of the year, NBL1 West grand final MVP, NBL1 National Tournament all-star and was a late call up for the NBL1 West select team. He now has played himself into the chance for making a professional roster. During his season for the Buccs, Narkle averaged 12 points per game, five rebounds and two assists.
