Geraldton has been without a dedicated menswear store for years now, but local men no longer need to feel forgotten about. Retail chain Lowes opened its Geraldton store in Stirlings Central on Saturday, providing a boost to men’s fashion choices and an immediate increase to foot traffic in the shopping centre. The new store is expected to create numerous job opportunities for Geraldton residents, with a focus on hiring locally. Go Health Cafe’s owner Steph Essex noted the immediate impact the store has had on trade in Stirlings Central. “Lowes is an exciting addition to all the businesses in Stirlings Central, particularly being the only dedicated menswear store in Geraldton,” she said. “We have already noticed an increase in business since their opening. Foot traffic even increased during the build with people interested in the developments and increase in sales since Saturday. It’s been great for trade all round.” City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn expressed his personal excitement about Lowes’ arrival, emphasising the benefits it brings to the “big men” and the wider community. “As a big fella myself, who has to travel to Perth to buy clothes, I am looking forward to getting down to Lowes. It is always great to see new shops opening up in Geraldton and we welcome their arrival,” he said.
