Two men have been charged with attempted armed robbery after allegedly threatening the residents of a Beachlands home with a rifle last week. Police will allege three men attended the address about 1.30pm on Thursday to demand property from the residents, with one man approaching the front door armed with a bolt-action rifle. Geraldton Detectives officer-in-charge Det-Sen. Sgt Bruce McDonald said the trio got into a car and left the scene when they were unable to obtain the property as demanded. “The people who live in that house have called us, we have conducted a number of investigative actions, and as a result we have charged two males,” he said. Det-Sen. Sgt McDonald said police believed the residents were known to the accused. One of the accused was 25-year-old Jayden John Payne, who was remanded in custody overnight before appearing in court on Saturday. Another man of the same age was granted bail and is expected to face court on September 16. The third man — who police will allege was the driver of the car — has not been identified. Det-Sen. Sgt McDonald said anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers by phoning 1800 333 000.
