The tournament requires participants to achieve submissions rather than relying on point-based scoring systems. Smith showcased his exceptional grappling abilities throughout the day, emerging victorious in both the gi and no-gi divisions within his weight category. The day began with Smith competing in the no-gi division, facing off against three opponents. Smith,’s impressive speed and precision led him to claim the fastest submission of the division, ultimately capturing the coveted gold medal. Heartened by his early triumph, Smith shifted his focus to the gi division. In a display of superior technique, Smith showcased his proficiency with the gi, expertly manoeuvring his opponent into submission positions. He secured back-to-back victories in the first two matches, eliminating the need for the third encounter and solidifying his double-gold victory.
