Food from Mid West-Gascoyne among WA produce the State Government is showcasing at Food and Hotel Asia expo

Mid West seafood and meat, as well as fruit from the Gascoyne, will be among a smorgasbord of WA premium food and beverage products on show at Asia’s premier trade exhibition in Singapore this week. The event — Food and Hotel Asia: Food and Beverage 2022 — will attract 55,000 buyers, distributors, agents and hospitality operators from across Asia, Africa and Europe. Among the WA Government’s display are produce from 25 agrifood businesses, including grains, canola oil, nougat, honey, seafood, fruit and vegetables, coffee, chocolate, beer, wine, cider and spirits. The Mid West-Gascoyne products on display are seafood from Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative, bananas from Carnarvon-based Sweeter Bananas Co-operative and beef from Geraldton-based Western Independent Foods. An extra 40 WA businesses are also exhibiting at the event, throughout the Australian Pavilion. Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan said this event provided the opportunity to prove to international buyers how good WA produce was. “Provenance is a crucial component of the premium food and beverage market, and events like Food and Hotel Asia enable WA businesses to tell their story and talk directly with in-market players,” she said. “The food and beverage industry and supply chains have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and our government has been working closely with the industry stakeholders to overcome this impact to rebuild, reconnect and re-establish trade relations.”
