The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued a bushfire advice for people travelling along Great Northern Highway in north eastern parts of Kumarina in the Shire of Meekatharra.

The fire is burning in inaccessible bushland 20km east of Great Northern Highway.

Firefighters have contained the blaze but it is not controlled and is moving slowly in an easterly direction.

Firefighters are monitoring the fire remotely.

Although there is no threat to lives or homes, there is a lot of smoke in the area and motorists are urged to turn their headlights on and drive slowly.

According to DFES, some roads may be closed as a result and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

The fire, which was reported yesterday, was believed to have been started by lightning.

Anyone wishing to keep up to date on the fire can do so by visiting www.emergency.wa.gov.au or calling 13 3337.
