Exmouth has claimed gold for the second year in a row, winning the 2023 7News Small Tourism Town Award. The win gives Exmouth a $10,000 airtime package to promote the town on 7 Regional WA. Exmouth competed in the small tourism town category, which places it with a population between 1500 and 5000, beating out the second placed York and third placed Tom Price. Exmouth shire president Darlene Allston said, “This year was an especially big one for our town, thanks to the 2023 Total Solar Eclipse.” “The Visitor Centre, local businesses, tour operators, and volunteers pulled together to welcome nearly 20,000 visitors from across the globe . . . this award is a testament to the spirit of collaboration and teamwork in Exmouth.” The winners were announced at the 2023 Perth Airport WA Regional Tourism Conference dinner in Kalgoorlie-Boulder on May 16. Mandurah claimed Gold in the top tourism town category while Dwellingup had top spot in the tiny tourism town section. Tourism Council WA chief executive Evan Hall said, ““Congratulations to this year’s winners of the Top Tourism Town Awards. Mandurah, Exmouth, and Dwellingup have all displayed an exceptional commitment to delivering high-quality visitor experiences.” “All medallists have impressed both an industry panel of judges and the public through consumer voting.” The town will represent West Australia at a national level for the top small town award in Australia, which it won gold in last year. More than 8000 people voted for their top towns.
