The FIFA Women’s World Cup is less than 48 hours away from getting underway as excitement reaches fever pitch ahead of what will be a historic occasion.

As is tradition, the trophy made its journey around the world before touring host nations Australia and New Zealand, with the trophy recently being displayed around WA.

The trophy was showcased at Perth/Boorloo, Busselton/Undalup, Kununurra/Goonoonoorrang and Broome/Rubibi with Mid West community participation officer Tanya Amazzini part of the tour.

“The trophy tour was a great chance for everyone to come together to celebrate and share in the excitement of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Tournament,” she said.

“Western Australia has five matches as part of the tournament, which is fantastic for the sport and women’s football and hopefully the tournament will help increase participation and hopefully encourage more females to play at a community level and beyond.”

The Maltidas get their campaign underway against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday at 6pm at Stadium Australia.
