Entries are open for the Gascoyne Annual Art Awards, one of the the oldest art competitions in the State, with a $10,000 prize category up for grabs. Artists are encouraged to get their entries in before 5pm on September 9 for their chance to participate in the exhibition and sell their works. The event is in partnership with Gascoyne Arts Society and the Shire of Carnarvon. Participants must pay an entry fee of $25 per artwork and $5 for school students. Gascoyne Arts Society Inc president Paquita Boston said the show will begin on September 16, running for 15 days, with prizes of up to $10,000 for various categories. “Everything will be for sale during the two weeks, so artists have the opportunity to sell their work,” she said. The judges will be based from Geraldton and the prize money is supported by the Shire of Carnarvon. “I encourage artists to apply and get their entries in as soon as possible,” Ms Boston said. “Last year’s event was superb, we held it open for a week and because of the great response we will hold the event this year for three consecutive Saturdays so everyone has the opportunity to view the exhibition.” The Gascoyne Annual Art Awards show began in 1984 and has run ever since.
